BRANTFORD, Ont. - A man who died when the small aircraft he was piloting crashed near Brantford Airport has been identified.

John Pearson, 65, of Brant County, was killed when the plane crashed just east of the airport on Wednesday.

Police say Pearson was the only occupant of the plane.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada described the aircraft as an "amateur-built" Skybolt.

The federal agency has sent a team to investigate the crash.
