Chatham-Kent OPP say a 52-year-old Windsor man was charged after driving his pickup truck 52 kilometres over the speed limit on Highway 401.

He was stopped by an officer was conducting radar enforcement on the 401, west of Blacks Road just before 9:00 a.m.

The officer says the eastbound Dodge pickup registered a speed of 152 km/hour in a 100 km/hour zone.

While traveling behind the pickup to initiate a traffic stop, the officer says the pickup was following very closely behind a tractor trailer.

Police stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver. He was apparently unable to produce a driver’s licence. Subsequent OPP traffic investigation revealed that the driver had two suspensions on his driver’s licence.

Robert Royles, from Windsor, has been charged with stunt driving, driving while under suspension, following too closely, driver failing to surrender licence.

The driver is scheduled to appear in a Chatham court to answer to the charges. His driver’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days.
