STRATFORD, Ont. - Justin Bieber's camp is pointing a finger of blame at the paparazzi for the pop star's latest run-in with the law.

Bieber's Toronto lawyer says the 20-year-old was on a "peaceful retreat" with Selena Gomez in Stratford, Ontario this weekend that was unfortunately disrupted by what he calls "the unwelcome presence of the paparazzi."

In an email to The Canadian Press, Brian Greenspan says this "regrettably" resulted in charges of dangerous driving and assault.

He adds Bieber and Gomez have fully cooperated in the police investigation and he's hopeful the matter will be resolved quickly.

Ontario Provincial Police say Bieber was arrested and charged Friday following a collision between a minivan and an ATV in a rural area northeast of Stratford, Bieber's hometown.

They say the driver of the ATV and an occupant of the minivan got into a physical altercation.

Police won't say which vehicle Bieber was driving but pictures posted online show the Canadian star and on-and-off girlfriend Gomez riding on an ATV.

Bieber is to appear in court on September 29th.
