Pepper spray was let off after a fight escalated at a Windsor grocery store, according to police.

Windsor police officers were dispatched to the Food Basics in the 800 block of Goyeau Street on Thursday at about 5:45 p.m. for someone that possibly let off pepper spray.

When police arrived, Windsor fire and EMS were on scene clearing out the store.

Investigation revealed that there was an altercation between a 28-year-old man and two suspects in the foyer of the store.

Police say one of the suspects sprayed a noxious substance from a canister at the victim and left the store, running toward Goyeau Street.

Two other patrons were inadvertently hit by the spray and two witnesses that tried to intervene that were indirectly affected by the spray.  All were treated by EMS and released.

Police say the victim is not being cooperative with the investigation.
