After years of construction and detours, the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway is scheduled to open next summer.

Eight of the nine municipal roads that cross the parkway have opened to the public, along with new bridges and tunnel tops and a multi-lane roundabout.

"I thank the residents of Windsor-Essex County for their patience during construction,” said Steven Del Duca, Minister of Transportation. “I also thank the local workforce that is helping to build the Parkway, creating a unique transportation solution the community will be proud of.”

Del Duca took a tour of the 11-kilometre corridor Friday afternoon.

The project faced a setback when 500 girders were replaced after they deemed unsafe. The province says construction achievements include the installation of all 1483 girders required for the project.

At its peak, around 1,200 labourers, technicians and designers worked on the parkway each day.
