A 33-year-old man is facing charges after Windsor RCMP seized over 400 cartons of contraband cigarettes from the trunk of a vehicle.

Police made the discovery in a search of the trunk on July 31. Officers say they were destined to be sold in the Windsor area.

Isam Jassim, 33, of Windsor, has been charged under the Excise Act. He is scheduled to appear in Chatham Provincial Court on Oct. 29.

"Contraband tobacco is a catalyst for a long list of associated crimes perpetrated by organized crime groups that adversely impact the social fabric of our neighborhoods, families and children," says Insp. Serge Cote, officer in charge of the Windsor Detachment.

Anyone with information about the sale and distribution of illegal tobacco products can contact the nearest RCMP detachment at 1-800-387-0020, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
