Organizers of Bike the Bridge hope to go ahead with the event on October 13.

The decision was reached at a meeting late Thursday afternoon. It is still pending approval from Dan Stamper and the Ambassador Bridge Company.

An organizer from the Canadian side, Alan Halberstadt, says he’s happy it looks like the event will go on after initial concerns it would be cancelled.

The annual cycling event is the only day of the year the Ambassador Bridge allows pedestrians of any kind and the only time cyclists can physically ride between countries in the area.

The two cities swap hosting duties each year. Detroit hosted in the inaugural year of 2009 and is expected to host again this year.
