Aircraft-conducted overhead traffic enforcement on Highway 401 in Essex County has resulted in 42 charges for drivers.

On Wednesday, the OPP traffic management unit, assisted by the London OPP Highway Safety Division Chatham-Kent OPP and an OPP aircraft, conducted the overhead traffic enforcement on in Essex County.

The Cessna 206 airplane, which is part of the current fleet that began enforcing traffic violations from the sky in 1966, assisted local OPP members in making local roads safer.

The following charges were laid:

-Speeding - 16

-Commercial Vehicle Following Too Closely - 13

-Driving While Suspended - 2

-Highway Traffic Act (HTA) Other - 7

-Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA) - 2

-Driving While Disqualified (Criminal Code of Canada) - 2
