An Essex County OPP officer helped keep a Windsor man’s head above water after his vehicle crashed into a ditch.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. on Monday on Mersea Road 2 in Leamington.

The vehicle was partially submerged in water on the driver’s side and was filling up. The first officer arrived on the scene and held the driver’s head above the water until he was joined by two more officers who were able to remove the driver from the vehicle.

The 35-year-old crash victim was transported to hospital where he was admitted to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The matter is still under investigation and police say charges are pending.
