OTTAWA - An Ottawa man faces 181 charges after police say 38 people in Canada and other countries were subjected to cyberbullying and harassment.

Police say 18 of the alleged victims are Ottawa residents while the others are from elsewhere in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.

The charges follow an eight-month investigation dubbed Project Winter, which also involved RCMP, Ontario Provincial Police and police in British Columbia, New Brunswick, Michigan and the U.K.

Police say the probe used investigative techniques that allowed for the identification of a suspect who was using Internet anonymity software.

The charges were laid after a search warrant was executed Thursday at a west-end residence in Ottawa.

Robert Campbell, 42, faces 27 counts of criminal harassment, 85 counts of defamation libel and 69 counts of identity fraud.
