One person was taken to hospital after a house fire in south Windsor on Sunday.

Windsor fire crews were called out to a home at 4285 Spago Cres. just before 7 p.m., where they found the first floor in flames.

Damage is estimated at $300,000.

Officials say the fire spread to a neighbouring house, causing an estimated $200,000 damage. Firefighters managed to get the fire under control after about an hour.

Aside from the person was taken to hospital with injuries, four other people managed to escape safely.

Officials say the fire left a total of 10 people homeless.

An investigator from the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal attended the scene on Monday. The investigation is expected to last a few days.

Earlier Sunday, firefighters were called out to 2487 Everts Ave. before 4 p.m. Officials say firefighters had to break down the side door to reach the flames.

The fire was mostly contained to the garage.

Investigators list the fire as accidental, saying the cause was car repair work and estimate damage at $100,000.
