One of Windsor’s last remaining World War Two veterans has passed away,

Howard Large died in a Windsor hospital Thursday night around 10 p.m. The 96-year-old was one of two surviving members of the Essex and Kent Scottish Regiment, who was involved in the Raid of Dieppe.

Large was unable to attend a Dieppe memorial ceremony on Tuesday. He was one of over 500 regiment members who stormed the beaches on Aug. 19, 1942.

Regiment officials are meeting with Large’s family Friday afternoon to discuss participation in the funeral service.
