A one-day faculty strike will go ahead Monday at the University of Windsor.

As a result, the university has taken steps to cancel all classes, labs and and placements.

"We're expecting everybody to come out and support the WUFA position that admin bargaining team needs to come back the table with a mandate to negotiate, with a mandate to compromise, with a mandate to get a deal done," Anne Forrest of the Faculty Association.

A planned one-day strike will take place with professors, librarians and coaches on the picket lines in protest of the contract administration implemented during the summer months.

Administration offered a 3% wage increase in year three of a contract -- after two years with a wage freeze.

WUFA wants 2% in every year of the contract.

"Our offer is one that we feel keeps them at the median in the province where they've always wanted to be and have been. It wasn't good enough," says University of Windsor president Alan Wildeman.

WUFA says Monday's strike will be informational.

Union leaders say outside of cancelled classes, it will be minimally disruptive.

"I am hopeful we're going to get this deal done soon. That's in everybody's interests," adds Forrest.

Classes are set to resume Tuesday.
