Windsor police say an officer used a Taser to arrest a 23-year-old Windsor man after a stabbing in Walkerville on Saturday.

Officers were called to Kildare Road and Wyandotte Street around 5:30 p.m.

Police were told a man was holding a large knife and he allegedly stabbed someone. When they got there, an officer says he saw a man matching the description, sitting on the curb and holding a knife in his hand.

There were several people standing in the area including behind him at the Kildare House. When the officer arrived the suspect stood up holding the knife, say police.

The officer tried to speak to the suspect in an attempt to de-escalate the situation, but the man allegedly began advancing at the officer without uttering a word.

Police say the officer considered all use of force options available to him while at the same time taking into consideration a restaurant with patrons directly behind the suspect.

The officer then used a Taser, which successfully incapacitated the suspect, according to police. The knife was taken away and the man was arrested without further incident.

When the officer asked the suspect why he approached him with the knife, the man allegedly said "I wanted you to kill me.”

Investigation revealed that the suspect and the victim are familiar with each other and they were allegedly in an altercation.

At some point during this altercation the suspect allegedly stabbed the suspect, but police say he is not being cooperative with the investigation.

The victim was treated at hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The 23-year-old suspect, from Windsor, is facing charges of aggravated assault, possess weapon dangerous to public peace and assault police.
