A deal has been signed for a wind farm in Chatham-Kent.

The North Kent Wind Farm, a 100-megawatt project, has entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement with the Independent Electricity System Operator.

Samsung and Pattern Development have not yet started construction on this wind farm, but the project is expected to create about 200 jobs and generate $9-million in benefits to the area.

“We appreciate the support we have received from Chatham-Kent for this project, which will provide many benefits in the municipality including job creation, business for local contractors, property tax revenue, and a $4 million community benefits contribution,” said Mike Garland, president and CEO of Pattern Development.

Construction is expected to begin by the end of next year and take about a year to complete.

North Kent Wind will generate enough energy to power about 35,000 homes annually.
