Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Canada and Windsor police are investigating a complaint of racial harassment after a worker alleges that a rope in the shape of a noose was tied on to a cart he was using at the Windsor Assembly Plant.

The plant is currently on shut down, but many contractors are still on the premises, working on retooling.

Police were dispatched to the plant in the 2100 block of Chrysler Centre for a report of harassment on Friday at about 8:30p.m.

Officers were met by the complainant who works for a construction company subcontracted by the plant while it is being retooled. Police were also met by union leaders and representatives from FCA.

The complainant alleged that the incident occurred on Thursday at some point while he was working his afternoon shift. He stated that he located a rope tied into the shape of a noose on a portable cart that he was using.

FCA Canada officials responded in a statement saying.

“We are currently working in cooperation with local authorities to investigate a recent allegation of workplace harassment made at our plant."

The FCA statement goes on to say “FCA Canada has a zero-tolerance policy regarding harassment or discrimination of any kind. This policy applies not only to our own employees, but also to vendors or contractors working at our facilities."

Company officials say they are taking the matter very seriously and will investigate in a timely manner.

"Our employees found in violation of this policy are subject to discipline up to and including termination."

Officials began an internal investigation into the incident and then another employee located a second noose on Friday. Police say they are are working with FCA and union leaders to determine who is responsible for leaving the rope.
