A unique new building officially opened on the University of Windsor campus Friday - The Stephen and Vicki Adams Welcome Centre.

Located at Wyandotte Street and Patricia Road, officials say the new centre will be the gateway to the main campus.

The Adams are being recognized for a $2 million gift to the university, which supports the centre, a scholarship fund and an art collection on display throughout the new building.

Alan Wildeman, University of Windsor president and vice-chancellor, said in a statement, “Through their scholarship fund, Stephen and Vicki are helping future generations of students. Their generosity has also helped the University of Windsor create a new and very special Welcome Centre...Consistent with their belief that education and the arts are intertwined, their giving back has included the art collection and sculpture that bring a unique and personal character to the space.”

The couple grew up in Windsor and have a long association with the University of Windsor. Stephen himself is a graduate, and more than 30 members of the couple's families have attended Assumption University or the University of Windsor.

The building houses the offices of Student Admissions and Recruitment, Alumni Affairs and Donor Communications, among others, and a large lobby and multi-purpose room are expected to host numerous campus events.

The semi-transparent, curved, 18,000-square-foot facility also gives visitors a 360-degree view of the surrounding campus.
