Windsor, along with the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative have launched a new service that will help municipalities adapt to climate change.

GLSLCI launched the Municipal Adaptation and Resiliency Service, Friday at its mid-year meeting in Windsor. MARS will help municipalities in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence region, who are feeling the effects of climate change.

“The City of Thunder Bay experienced extreme rainfall and flooding in 2012, and we learned from the experience. MARS will help all of us be more aware of what to expect from our changing climate, and be better prepared,” said Thunder Bay Mayor Keith Hobbs.

Windsor West MPP Teresa Piruzza announced $145,000 of provincial funding for MARS. To start the initiative, municipalities will document adaption measures that will be implemented over the next two years.

A portal will then be launched, where adoption resources will be available municipal mayors.
