A new garden is in the ground to serve as a lasting reminder of the 2017 Mastercard Memorial Cup.

Hundreds of tulips will be planted every year in the WFCU Centre parking lot round about.

“The memorial cup remembrance gardens is the first legacy project to be announced,” says John Savage, organizing chairperson for the 2017 Memorial Cup.

The very first Memorial Cup was handed out in 1919. The trophy was created by a veteran by the name of Captain James T Sutherland, who lost a number of friends he had spent years playing hockey with.

“This organization is not only embracing the athletic component of this tournament, but also understands the memorial cups' history,” says veteran Mike Akpata.

Windsor will be hosting the Memorial Cup from May 19 - May 28, 2017.
