The controversy over a new fire hall, already under construction, continues.

About two dozen neighbours gathered at Most Precious Blood Roman Catholic Church Saturday where the Windsor Professional Firefighters Association met with them.

Neighbours say the hall is being built in the wrong location and will increase response times.

The association tried to assure residents that it will not give up the fight to relocate the hall, being built at Chandler and Meldrum.

Residents Kari Schofield and Ken Acton say they are not giving up either.

"They are trying to put this up as fast as possible to quiet the residents and lull us into a belief that it's over and there's nothing else we can do,” says Schofield.

Residents are also troubled by the lack of public input on the decision.

Coun. Ed Sleiman says he supports the residents, but isn’t get support form council.

"There is no appetite to re-purpose it or change it. We are stuck with it,” he says.

Mayor Eddie Francis says the project will continue as scheduled.

"Council made a decision. This is not a question if the project is going to happen. The facility is being built."

Francis says 90,000 are without sufficient fire service in the city but he says 50,000 of them will get better coverage because of restructuring.

Residents are now sending a letter to the Ontario Fire Marshall raising their concerns.
