Windsor city council has taken a major step in getting the museum a new home.

Council voted to move the museum into the main floor of the Art Gallery of Windsor, pending approval of a business report.

“It’s exciting for the community, it’s exciting for the museum, it’s exciting for the art gallery and everyone involved in culture in this community,” says Councillor Fulvio Valentinis.

The current location at the historic Francois Baby House is no longer big enough to hold the museum’s artifacts.

The Baby House will continue to operate and house special exhibits, but the museum will now have the space for modern and interactive displays in the gallery.

“There’s no question you’ve got a structure that is part of the history of this community,” says Valentinis. “From there you evolve into a proper space that you can expand on artifacts and telling the story of this community.”

Valentinis expects the move will take months rather than years. He says they plan on applying for grants to get assistance from upper levels of government.

“It’s the first time we’re going to have a sizeable presence and a proper presence,” says Valentinis.
