The defending Memorial Cup champions are off to a good start in the 2017-2018 campaign with a 3-1 win over the Sagniaw Spirit in the Spitfires OHL season and home opener.

Luke Kutkevicius scored the winning goal for the Spitfires on the power play with less than two minutes to play. in the game at the WFCU Centre Thursday night. Luke Boka and Jake Smith added the other goals for Windsor.

Goalie Michael DiPietro stopped 26 shots, and Aaron Luchuk added two assists with five shots for his first points as team captain.

The Spits look to keep the momentum going Friday as they head to London to square off against the rival Knights. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m.
