The most decorated Olympian of all time was in town Sunday to help kick off the FINA Aquatics Gala at Caesar’s Windsor.

Phelps received the male swimmer of the year award from FINA after he won five more gold medals at the Olympic Games in Rio.

“This journey started when I was 15-years-old and I wanted to chance the sport of swimming. That was my goal,” said Phelps at the Gala.

Phelps says he now retired but will continue to attend meets when he can.

About 1,000 swimmers from around the world will compete at this year’s FINA World Swimming Championships which get underway at the WFCU Centre on Tuesday.
