Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man and woman after an alleged violent attack on a family member involving an axe and a baseball bat.

Police say the Muirkirk couple began texting a family member accusing him of theft on Friday around 10 a.m.  Around 12:30 p.m. the pair attended his home in Wallaceburg and allegedly confronted him outside. 

The woman exited the vehicle with a baseball bat and allegedly struck him in the legs multiple times and smashed two windows out of his vehicle. 

Police say the man threw an axe that narrowly missing his family member.  Police were contacted and the pair fled the area. 

On Sunday around 9:00 p.m., police located the man and woman and they were both taken into custody. 

The 28-year-old man and 26-year-old woman, both from Muirkirk, have been charged with assault with a weapon and mischief under $5000. 

They were both released pending a court date of Oct. 16.
