Police say a senior was bilked of over $90,000 in a lottery scam targeting east Windsor residents.

The Windsor police financial crimes branch has been in contact with a number of citizens within the east end targeted by their postal codes. Police say the letter is from Global Lottery and Winner's International.

In one case, the senior was defrauded of over $90,000 and the suspect attended the victim's residence to collect the funds, police say.  The suspect is described as a black man in his 40's or 50's, driving a SUV-styled vehicle.

The letter indicates that the person has won $2.5 million and a 2013 Mercedes Benz E-Class AMG.

Police say the letter and the offer are fraudulent.  The area code of the phone number associated with the fraud is 876, which is the area code for Jamaica.

The financial crimes branch has received an increasing number of phone calls from east end residents in the past week.

Police say the Global Lottery and Winner's International fraud has been reported in other communities in both Canada and the United States and has been reported as targeting senior citizens.

The public is reminded to exercise extreme caution in participating in any unsolicited offers.  Fraud can come in the form of traditional mailings and unsolicited phone calls.

Meeting unknown persons at any time has the potential to create substantial safety issues.
