A London driver allegedly travelling more than double the speed on Longwoods Road near Chatham with almost twice the legal limit of alcohol, is facing multiple charges.

Chatham-Kent police say an officer conducting speed enforcement clocked a vehicle travelling 121 kilometres per hour in a 60 kilometre zone.

Police say when the vehicle was stopped the officer saw an open bottle of beer in a cup holder.

The driver failed a roadside screening test and was taken to the police station for further breath testing. The results of the tests showed that his blood alcohol concentration was almost twice the legal limit.

A 34-year-old man has been charged with driving with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit, stunt driving, and driving a motor vehicle with an open container of alcohol.

He was later released from custody and has a future court date. His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
