It was a hero’s welcome for a pair of local Olympians - Noelle Montcalm of Belle River and Kylie Moss of LaSalle.

For Masse, the homecoming wasn't just in her hometown, it was in her former school.

Sandwich Students made a touching throwback tribute for Masse, their first ever Olympic star.

“I'm really emotional, I started crying, it’s crazy to see they had old pictures," says Masse.

Masse graduated from Sandwich three years ago. She says not much has changed.

“This is where I grew up, where I went to high school so it's incredible to be back and surrounded by all these people who support Canada," she says.

As recently as two years ago, the swimmer was ranked 200th in the world. Everything changed when Masse captured bronze in the 100 metre backstroke in Rio.

“We feed so much off the community and the people you know and family support and recognition,” says Masse.

Earlier Friday, she was at the WFCU Centre where mayor Drew Dilkens anointed her the ambassador for the Fina World Swimming Championships.

It's a similar feeling shared by 400-metre hurdler Montcalm.

She's been busy speaking at various schools, sharing her story with the next generation.

“So much hard work and people behind me supporting me and for it all to come to fruition is just amazing and like I said, something I won't ever forget," says Montcalm.

Montcalm even took part in the Terry Fox run at St. Peter Catholic School today.
