There’s a new provincial NDP candidate for Windsor-West.

Lisa Gretzky received the nod from party members Saturday night at a nomination meeting. She was the only nominee.

Gretzky is currently a public school board trustee. She plans to maintain that role during the next election.

“When I'm speaking to parents about concerns with the school board, it often comes up that they have concerns that come up outside the education system and I often hear that they don't feel they're being represented properly in Windsor-West,” she says.

NDP party leader Andrea Horwath was also in town.

She says the shock of the Heinz plant closure is lessened somewhat by the announcement of a new canning facility.

“Not only do we need to make sure that we have strong farms that are growing good fresh foods in Ontario and we also have to make sure that we're getting some of those value added jobs here,” Horwath says.
