Will Ken Lewenza Sr. run for mayor? It’s a question he keeps asking himself.

At a news conference Monday morning, Unifor Local 444, along with Lewenza announced $30,000 in donations for three area charities to assist with poverty in Windsor. However, things took a quick turn when Lewenza filtered questions about his political future.

“There’s been a lot of people who have tapped me on the shoulder,” he says.

The former union leader has juggled the decision to run for Windsor mayor since Eddie Francis announced his intentions to not seek re-election earlier this year.

“People are encouraging me to run, but what I’ve said told people today is that my mind says I have a responsibility to public service to give back to Windsor Essex, which has been good to me as a local union leader and a community activist, but my heart is saying take a break.”

Lewenza says he will make his intentions known in a couple weeks.

Four people have announced their candidacy for the mayor’s chair, with Robin Easterbrook being the most recent.
