Windsor is getting a blast of late summer heat, enough to warrant a level 2 heat alert for the region.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit issued the level 2 alert late Tuesday morning. Environment Canada forecasted a high of 35 C for Tuesday, with a humidex advisory in effect.

Wednesday is also expected to be hot, with a high of 31 C. Then temperatures will return to more normal levels Thursday and Friday.

Meanwhile, medical offices of health in London and Toronto have issued heat alerts for those areas.

Temperature is expected to reach 34 C in Toronto, combined with humidity that will make it feel as though it's over 40 C.

Members of the public are encouraged to take precautions to keep cool, such as drinking plenty of water, staying out of the sun and taking advantage of air-conditioning when possible.

People are also urged to check on neighbours and family members, especially children and vulnerable adults, and to never leave seniors, children or pets unattended in a car.

Environment Canada has warned that Tuesday may feel like the hottest day of the summer for much of southern Ontario, thanks to hot and humid air blowing in from the U.S. midwest.

Humidex values of 40 to 45 are expected in much of the southern part of the province.
