As part of the reality show 'Giver,' Chestnut Park will get a new play structure this summer.

The Municipality of Leamington says the playground was selected as one of ten projects out of 200 submissions for the upcoming reality show produced by Sinking Ship Entertainment. The current play structure was installed in 1988.

The intent of the show is to engage local children and community volunteers to build playgrounds, from the design and planning stage through the three-day rebuild.

Ken Brown, manager of Public Works, said in a statement “The Giver reality show is a real opportunity to profile Chestnut Park and encourage the local neighbourhood children and volunteers to be a part of rebuilding the playground. In addition, the financial support provided by Sinking Ship Entertainment and the local community sponsors will go a long way in revitalizing Chestnut Park."

The dates for construction and filming have been tentatively scheduled for August 18-20, 2014.

Sinking Ship Entertainment will provide $10,000 towards the project and the Municipality of Leamington will contribute $5,000 and provide in-kind support.

But the municipality is still looking for more sponsorships and donations to make the park great. All donations go towards the purchase of materials and playground equipment for Chestnut Park.
