The town of Leamington is looking to spruce up its waterfront.

The municipality announced Friday it will begin acquiring land located on the waterfront, in hopes of attracting tourists.

The $1.7-million project will volleyball pits and a roll out accessible trail to the water.

"That's all moving ahead because we because we have the funding for that,” says Leamington mayor John Paterson.

A complete redesign of Erie Street South is also in the plans.

“An extended walking path through foster over to the marina and then the walking path along the beach connecting to our promenade and we'll finally have everything all fully connected,” he says.

While the town is looking to get the ball rolling, a couple hurdles stand in the way.

"Attaining more properties I think will be the biggest challenge moving forward,” says Paterson.

Council says it will take some time to complete.
