The members of Leamington District Memorial Hospital have received a special award from Accreditation Canada.

They received the "Accreditation with Exemplary Standing" for their practices of quality health services

"It says to our patients, families and community that we measure up where it means the most - patient safety and quality care," says the CEO of Leamington District Memorial Hospital, Terry Shields.

The award, which has only been given to a very small group of Canadian hospitals, is the highest achievement Accreditation Canada can give.

Accreditation Canada's program looks at all parts of an organization's services, ranging from direct care to patient and staff benefits. The review process is lengthy and in-depth, needing a full team of surveyors to complete.

Rose Costa, the Senior Director of Corporate Services at Leamington Hospital explains what receiving this award says about the hospital.

"What this means is that we have the necessary structures, processes and procedures in place to mitigate various risks; manage issues, and adverse occurrences as they arise; and measure, monitor and continually improve patient safety and quality of care," Costa said.

Shields adds this award was made possible by all of the staff and patents at the hospital.
