Early Saturday the remaining portion of the new Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway from Highway 3 (Huron Church Road) to the Ojibway Parkway is set to open.

It is the final section of the Highway 401 that will eventually connect to the new Gordie Howe International Bridge.

Officials say one lane will open westbound with a speed limit of 60 km/h and two lanes will open eastbound with a limit of 100 km/h.

Vehicles heading to the U.S. must continue to exit at Huron Church Road.

The opening is expected to help improve access to the area along the Detroit River.

This opening brings construction of the $1.4-billion parkway, which began in 2011, near completion. Landscaping and other minor work is expected to be complete in spring 2016.

Officals say it is the largest highway infrastructure project in Ontario history.
