LaSalle firefighters were given a unique task over the weekend.

Crews were called out to Turkey Creek just before 2 p.m. on Saturday, where officials say a fire started in a marsh and took about two hours to put out.

It was difficult to douse as it happened on a small island.

A boat was used to carry firefighters and equipment to get to the flames.

Firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading to nearby homes.

There’s no word on the cause, but LaSalle’s fire chief says marsh fires can occur.
