One of Windsor’s mayoral hopefuls has released his election platform for the upcoming municipal election.

At a news conference on Thursday afternoon, Larry Horwitz revealed his plans for the City of Windsor if he were to get elected on Oct. 27.

Horwitz says his first priority is job creation. He wants to provide financial relief for businesses both big and small.

He says part of making Windsor attractive is continuing to hold the line on taxes, without sacrificing programs and services.

"My goal is to present a budget that is balanced and disciplined. We are not taking anything out of the budget. We are reprioritizing funds. We have a five year capital plan, and we are reprioritizing," Horwitz says.

Horwitz says in his early door-to-door encounters, residents are asking for more accountability, as well as the need to provide more "quality of life" infrastructure spending in the budget.

"We've forgotten about the neighbourhoods. People want to go to parks and pools. People want their roads fixed, their sewers fixed. We have to go back to basics. When we do that, after we take care of those basic problems, then we can look again at those big ticket items."

To that end, he's pledging $20 million over two years to accelerate sewer enhancements, as well as $20 million annually for seriously deficient roads, which will be split evenly throughout the wards.

Horwitz is one of 12 candidates running for mayor.
