Windsor police are warning the public after getting more complaints reporting incidents with Kijiji.ca.

In each complaint, an online advertisement asks a person to submit their personal information for either a home rental application, or a job application, say police.

Once the information is sent, the person collecting it has attempted to open credit cards in the name of the applicant and takes the ad down.

In rental applications, the scammer requested the first and last month’s rent payment through Western Union.

Police don’t know if there is a single individual or several people responsible for these incidents. The true location of these parties is unknown as multiple email addresses have been used.

The financial crimes branch reminds the public to exercise caution in providing personal information to any individual over the telephone, at the front door, or over the internet.
