The death of Windsor Jail inmate Jonathan Dew has been determined at an inquest hearing Friday.

A jury made their decision on the final day of an inquest looking at factors surrounding the death of Dew. One of the things the jury was tasked with, was deciding whether or not Dew’s death be considered natural or accidental. The family was hoping for the latter.

While the jury can’t lay blame to Dews death, they did conclude it to be of natural causes.

The 26-year-old died in September of 2012, after collapsing in the shower. He was rushed to hospital with a collapsed lung. He would later fall into a coma and eventually die.

The jury came back with 19 recommendations for the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services to consider. The jury recommends that the number of medical staff at jails should be tied to the number of inmates and not the number of beds.

The jury also want the ministry to find a solution to the over-crowding of Ontario jails.
