Windsor police say a stolen excavator is to blame for damaged trees at Ojibway Park.

Officers were dispatched to 5555 Ojibway Parkway in relation to a motor vehicle theft report on Sunday at 9:30 p.m.

Officers met with a complainant who indicated that someone had taken one of the excavators for a "joy-ride" in the previous 24-hour period. The person found the machine in the southwest part of the park.

The John Deere 450 Excavator went about 75 metres into the bush.

The machine sustained damage to the engine vent area, front cage area and mirror. Police say damage is estimated to be about $5000.

A portable toilet also sustained about $2,000 in damages.
