Workers at Caesars Windsor ratified a new contract following a series of meetings on Tuesday.
About 2.300 members of Local 444 voted 73.5 per cent in favour of a new four-year agreement.
Local president Dino Chiodo admits the contract isn’t everything the union had hoped for, but following some tough negotiations the union was able to make sure Caesars cannot license any of its existing food outlets.
The four year tentative deal breaks down like this:
• In year one, full time employees get a $1,500 signing bonus.
• In year two, workers receive a $0.25 wage increase and a $250 lump sum payment for full time workers.
• In year three, full time employees get a $750 lump sum payment.
• In year four, employees receive a $0.35 wage increase.
Other highlights include payout of sick days, better recall language, and improved benefits.
On Monday, Caesars Windsor stated in a voice message that they would be closing their hotel Tuesday into Wednesday in case the agreement was reject.
The hotel is will reopen by 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Unifor Local 444 and casino management reached the tentative deal Friday after roughly 40 hours of bargaining.
