Essex OPP is reporting an increase in the number of incidents involving youths sharing sexually explicit images over the Internet.

Parents are being encouraged by provincial police to speak with their children about the dangers of sharing sexually explicit photos or videos online. OPP say those who distribute these photos should be aware of the potential criminal ramifications.

A sexually explicit image taken intentionally by a person under the age of 18 could potentially fall under the definition of child pornography under the Criminal Code of Canada.
