Two teens have been arrested after about $4,500 in hunting gear was stolen during a Chatham-Kent break in.

Chatham-Kent police say the pair broke into a garage on Park Avenue East and stole the hunting equipment around 4 a.m Monday.

Four crossbows and a 22 caliber semi-automatic rifle were taken from a locked gun cabinet.

Police say the pair took it to a residence on Raleigh Street and attempted to sell the rifle in exchange for drugs. Both are currently prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Around 10:30 a.m., police responded to the area of Richmond Street and Lacroix Street for a report of two men carrying weapons. Officers flooded the area, but did not find the suspects.

Through investigation, officers say they identified the pair responsible. They were taken into custody and the rifle was recovered.

An 18-year-old man and 17-year-old youth, both from Chatham, have been charged with multiple weapon related offences, failing to comply with release conditions, possession of stolen property obtained by a crime under $5000 and break and enter.

They have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
