It’s going to be a windy ride for Santa Claus, as strong wind gusts move into Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent on Christmas Eve.

Environment Canada issued a wind warning on Wednesday morning, as southwest winds bring gusts as strong as 90 km/h to the region. Residents living along northeastern Lake Erie could see winds travelling at 100 km/h.

The weather authority says the winds are part of a low pressure system moving across the southern United States. These strong gusts are expected to arrive Wednesday night and carry into Christmas Day.

Environment Canada warns that these gusts could prove damaging to roofs and windows. Loose objects could also be tossed around.

Commuters should also give themselves extra time in the morning, as a thick blanket of fog stretches across Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent.
