Another hot September day is anticipated for Windsor and Essex County.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit issued a level 1 heat alert for the area on Wednesday. Chatham-Kent is also under a level 1 heat alert.

Windsor-Essex was under a level 2 heat alert on Tuesday as temperatures soared to 34.6 C, breaking a record of 34 C from 1983.

Environment Canada has forecasted 34 C as Wednesday’s high as well.

A level 1 heat alert is issued whenever the forecast predicts a humidex value reaching 40 C. In this case, humidex values are expected to reach 40 or higher Wednesday.

The health unit says extremely hot weather and humidity can be very dangerous. Residents are urged to follow steps to stay cool.
