Windsor police say two people have been arrested after a hash oil cooking operation led to a west end explosion Monday night.

Police were called to the 300 block of Detroit Street on Monday at 9:50 p.m. The report indicated an explosion within an apartment unit blew the patio doors off.

The Windsor Police worked with the Ontario Fire Marshall in an attempt to determine the cause of the explosion. Officials say butane fuel was being used inside the residence in an attempt to create cannabis resin, more commonly known as hash oil.

Police seized 33.8 grams of cannabis marijuana.

The police drug unit was notified of the findings and continued with the investigation. A search warrant was granted for the apartment unit.

After the search, officers seized an additional 3.4 grams of cannabis marijuana, an electric grinder, a bowl containing cannabis resin, several disposable lighters and other packaging materials.

Investigation revealed butane fuel was being used to create the cannabis resin in the kitchen, say police. The butane fuel, which is heavier than air, was ignited by the electric refrigerator motor.

Anthony Ribble Nguyen, 24, was arrested and charged with unlawfully producing cannabis resin, , unlawful possession of cannabis marijuana and explosion with a disregard for human life.

Jeremy Frisk, 21, was also arrested and charged with unlawfully producing cannabis resin, unlawful possession of cannabis marijuana and explosion with a disregard for human life.

An arrest warrant has been issued for 22-year-old Jaki Marie Curtis. She is wanted for the same charges.
