A small group of people rallied Tuesday morning in an effort to stop construction being done at Willistead Park.

The City of Windsor is installing drainage in the park and eventually asphalt paths.

The group does not feel new paths are necessary and feel the old brick paths should be left alone, since they are more aesthetically pleasing.

“It just seems to be another situation where something that we already have, that's a benefit to the city that's considered a jewel is being altered, but not in a positive way," says Elaine Weeks, from the group called Save Willistead Park.

The city's parks department says the new paths and improved drainage will make the paths more accessible to people with mobility issues.

The city has pegged $400,000 for the work, which has been approved by the board of Willistead.

The group feels tax payers should have a right to know how funds are spent at the heritage park and that area residents should have been notified.

The funding was approved by council last year, in the 2013 parks capital budget.

The city's parks director says they are trying to schedule a public meeting about the construction to happen sometime in the next two weeks and that if asphalt is installed, it won't happen until the spring.
