It was a  shocking Saturday morning for 1,500 Future Shop employees around the country after the chain announced all stores are closed, including the Windsor Walker Road location.

Between 30 to 40 employees work at that store.

Best Buy, which owns Future Shop, says it will have 192 retail locations after the restructuring is complete.

Former Best Buy Canada employees tell CTV News they had a staff meeting at 7 a.m. Saturday.

They said their manager got straight to the point by reading an e-mail from head office about the bad news and the mood was very sombre. Some employees said rumours had been circulating.

"At first it was shock. But there were rumours for the past two to three weeks saying the store is closing down. I'm not sure why. We got the best sales in the district. I guess Best Buy is too much of a competition," said Jasmine Au, who was a sales association at the Walker Road store.

Employees were told they will get severance pay.

When it comes to Future Shop gift cards, returns, exchanges, existing product orders, service appointments and warranties, those will all be accepted at any Best Buy Canada location and online.
