The weather in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent is picking up as a severe storm with the potential to produce funnel clouds moves into the region.

Viewers Jeanine Lassalin and Kimberly Grant both snapped photographs of what looks to be a funnel cloud descending from the sky in Wheatley around 2 p.m.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement indicating the potential for funnel clouds in our region. The weather authority says these funnel clouds are generated from weak thunderstorms, however there could be the potential of these funnel clouds intensifying and becoming a landspout tornado.

OPP has received several calls about funnel cloud sightings, though officers have not located any damage.

Anyone who spots a funnel cloud should treat it seriously and take shelter.
