A wintery mix of precipitation is expected to fall throughout Windsor, Essex County and Chatham-Kent on Tuesday.

Environment Canada says a low pressure system tracking toward southern Ontario is bringing the mix of precipitation to the region.

Snow has begun across much of southwestern Ontario and it continues to spread eastward.

The snow is forecast to transition to ice pellets and freezing rain from west to east later Tuesday, beginning around noon in the Windsor area and by mid to late afternoon in the Hamilton, Oakville and Niagara regions.

The freezing precipitation will persist for a few hours before tapering to some light rain or drizzle as temperatures rise above the freezing mark early this evening.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

Police are urging motorists to take extra caution when driving.
