Four women who sued the Windsor Police Services Board and the Windsor Essex County Health Unit as a result of their infection with HIV by Carl Leone have settled their lawsuits out of court.

The firm representing them, Sutts, Strosberg LLP, says the settlement is not an admission of

liability by the police or the health unit.

The names of the four plaintiffs cannot be published and their identities must remain private because of numerous court orders made in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.

The terms and conditions of the settlement agreement are not being released, including the dollar value.

Leone pleaded guilty to 15 counts of aggravated sexual assault, including the counts related to the four women on April 27, 2005. He was later sentenced to serve 18 years at a federal penitentiary.

Judgment determining Leone’s liability has been granted and the lawsuits against him are permitted to continue, the law firm said in a statement.
